June 28, 2017 by Britex FabricsBolster pillows are like adorable rolls of candy adorning sofas and beds, and when they're made out of velvet they're even more delicious. Check out this super easy velvet bolster pillow tutorial by Anita from cedarhillfarmhouse.com, and visit the second floor of our brick-and-mortar store to see a selection of velvets in cotton, silk/rayon, viscose, rayon/acetate, poly lycra and more (the term 'velvet' refers to the structure of the fabric rather than the fiber; the pile is always created by raised loops). Velvet fabric has been around since the Middle Kingdom of the ancient Egyptians (approximately 2000 BC), and velvet trims have been found as far back as the Qin and Western Han dynasties in China--so clearly, there's no need to improve on something that was perfect four millennia ago! For velvet ribbon, please visit us online here or visit the ribbon wall on the second floor of our brick-and-mortar store where we have hand dyed, grosgrain, satin, metallic, silk, velvet, sheer, vintage, and many other types of ribbon.

This DIY headboard re-upholstery tutorial by Jenny of Little Green Notebook has specific step by step instructions and is time consuming but worth the outcome. It shows you in detail how to re-purpose vintage headboards she found at a thrift store. Using velvet, adhesive, foam, a Sharpie marker, a ruler, a needle, some thread, and some tools from her tool box, Jenny transformed old raggedy headboards into the fabulous one featured above! For the complete tutorial, please visit it here. For velvet fabric, and other fabulous home decor fabrics, please visit the second floor of our brick-and-mortar store, just off Union Square in San Francisco.

April 20, 2015 by Britex FabricsFor many years, Britex has had the honor of being a hotspot for fashion designer Nima Shiraz. We pile amazing fabrics and trims in his arms, send him on his way, and then pouf! He has transformed our items into breathtaking high fashion. This last month we have watched as Nima bought out an entire color of our Swarovski crystal collection, leather and velvet, and lace. And then, we found out what it was for. At the beginning of this month, there was a tribute concert for David Lynch and his foundation to teach Transcendental Meditation. And Nima was making a catsuit for one of the performers, the gorgeous Chrysta Bell.
May 8, 2014 by Nicole at HomeSewing Indie Month and the garment I've sewn up is from the incredible indie company, Victory Patterns! Here, I've interpreted their Chloe dress, a 60s inspired fitted sheath, in colorblock with lovely stretch grey and plum velveteen. While velveteen isn't the easiest fabric to work with (I'll give some tips to make it easier in this post), it gives an unexpected and (in my opinion!) fabulous twist to this dress.
