The Britex Blog
March 17, 2016 by Britex FabricsGuest Blog Post by TamaraAfter seeing his beautiful dresses in the Neiman Marcus windows across the street from Britex Fabrics, I couldn't wait to see the Oscar de la Renta exhibit at the De Young. The garments made of elegant fabrics of many types, (some which have cousins which can be found at Britex Fabrics) with fine embellishments and unique details, are what made this exhibit memorable. Because I work at Britex Fabrics, love to sew, and have taken courses in Fashion design, I have a wealth of knowledge and passion about fabric. Britex Fabrics is pleased as punch to be carrying locally hand-crafted silk flowers on the 3rd floor of our San Francisco store. Werner Originals was established in Los Angeles, California in 1972 as a maker of handmade European style silk flowers for home and commercial decorating. They currently specialize in flowers for the millinery and fashion industry made in a wide variety of fabrics including silk, organza, satin, velvet, cotton and leather. Kristin from Werner says, “Having learned the decades long family business of silk flower making in Hungary we were lucky enough to bring it to Los Angeles in 1972 and have been at ever since. The silk flower industry has changed dramatically over last 40 years, seeing most American makers go out of business, we are determined to keep this craft alive. We are proud to celebrate 40 years of lovingly hand crafting the highest quality silk flowers.” All of their luscious floral creations start their life as a roll of white fabric and then go through the painstaking process of cutting, dying, shaping and assembling by hand until the perfect flower is created. We’re fascinated by these artisan methods. Here is a silk flower colorist, flower forming metal molds, and two beauteous finished blossoms.
