The Britex Blog
January 31, 2017 by Jamie Lau DesignsI’m often drawn to fabrics with texture, particularly fashion novelty fabrics. I particularly love working with metallic brocades when I want to achieve a certain luxury feel. You may recall this Linen Palazzo Pant Jumpsuit style from one of my previous posts. It is definitely a customer favorite! I have been exploring new fabrics to offer it in this season and was happy to find this beautiful, luxurious linen novelty fabric. The metallic finish adds visual interest and elevates the material, yet still meets my criteria for functionality since it is a linen. A brocade would be too thick for the look and ease of this silhouette. Plus, I wanted to work with a fabric that was easy to care for.

The Challenge: This week’s challenge was to create a streetwear look for the ‘Urban Jungle’. The contestants on the show went to Orlando Studios to see the new ‘Reign of Kong’ ride to get inspired for the jungle… I just watched the movie trailer.
December 30, 2014 by Britex FabricsThe 2014 Guest Blogger Re-cap is here—because you’ve probably missed a few pretty amazing projects along the way this year and because we’re so proud of each blogger’s ability to transform Britex fabrics into beautiful garments and accessories. During the next few weeks you’ll be treated to exclusive re-caps of our favorite guest blogger projects. We’ll show you the best of the best from each of our guest bloggers with all their individual style. Jamie of Jamie Lau Designs contributed a total of 5 projects this year---busy bee, she is. If you haven't noticed, she loves fabrics with structure like linen and cotton, and has a special interest in colorblocking patterns, which pretty much guarantees beautiful and uncommon garments. Here's a perfect example. Jamie's Palazzo Pant Jumpsuit is a favorite of ours. The linen choices are perfect with just the right amount of drape. For those that love linen but aren't big fans of the wrinkle factor, Jamie recommends using fusible knitted tricot interfacing for collars and other areas you'd like to keep crisp.

Adam, a local tailor, made his client a suave and chic tailored jumpsuit of brilliant red viscose from Britex Fabrics. Britex Fabrics’ associate, Douglas, assisted Adam. We love the modest plunging neckline and sparklingly bright color. Adam says, "I am an independent designer working in Portland for the last twelve years. I have a collection of men’s and women’s pieces, as well as custom design that I create to order for a clientele. I design, pattern draft, fit, cut, and construct every garment myself in my studio. I am inspired by fabric, color, texture, and finding the perfect fit. Because my main focus is on fit and construction, my designs have often been called “classic”, although I personally strive to strike a timeless balance between fabric, line, and function." This lovely 100% viscose is available is imported from Italy and on Britex Fabrics’ 2nd floor, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 415-392-2910.

I’ve been busy designing jumpsuits this month, including a style with a drawstring waist in embroidered Japanese cotton. For my latest edition of Fashion Travelogue, I selected two beautiful fabrics from the Britex linen category for a bolder jumpsuit look - a colorblock palazzo pant style with short kimono sleeves. For the yoke and necktie, I chose a lightweight linen that is a cross between hunter green and teal green. And for the volume-heavy part of the garment, I selected a midweight linen that is a lovely mix of warm copper and terracotta tones. The width on both of these fabrics is quite generous (58”-59” wide), perfect for wide leg pants.
