June 14, 2017 by Britex FabricsIf you've ever looked longingly at our online linen section--or at the tantalizing linens in our brick-and-mortar store--and wished you had just the right thing to make with it, Geneva Vanderzeil of apairandasparediy.com has the perfect project for you! This new intermediate skill level linen jumpsuit builds on Geneva's easy shorts project, beginning with creating your own pattern (don't be anxious about patternmaking; this project has step-by-step instructions on drafting from your existing clothing). Choose a linen and run with it! And remember: if our online store doesn't have the color or texture you're looking for, just purchase the Customized Swatch Service (available in the "About Britex" section) so we can hand pick fabrics for you from our entire brick-and-mortar inventory. If you're local or planning a visit to San Francisco soon, come visit us in the heart of Union Square to check out our vast selection of linen on the second floor.

The Gentleman's Wardrobe is a really great new book that we just got in on the third floor of our brick-and-mortar store. It includes patterns for shirts, a waistcoat, trousers, a jacket, boxer shorts, pajamas, slippers, a messenger bag, a wallet, a bow tie, a cap, and more. With each project it includes suggested fabrics and color photos of finished garments for men, as well as tools and other sewing resources. The Gentleman's Wardrobe is written by Vanessa Mooncie, and was just published this year. So often people have come in asking us for patterns for men's clothing, and this is a great place to start. Be sure to come in and check it out, and keep an eye out for the new patterns we just ordered for men's vests, pants, shirts, and more, arriving soon!
May 12, 2017 by Britex FabricsAre any of you participating in Me Made May? If you haven't heard, the month of May is when many sewists and knitters set a goal to wear a certain amount of handmade garments for thirty one days and usually document daily outfit photos on social media or their blog. This forces makers to think about what they are wearing and what they would like to create in the future. My personal goal this month is to wear something handmade every day and so far I'm on track. I also use the month of May as an incentive to fill gaps in my wardrobe and make some knit tops because that is what I am lacking. I'm switching it up a bit today by sharing a super fast sewing project that can be made in only a few hours (max) for those of you who are looking to quickly plump up your dress selection.
