The Britex Blog
July 16, 2014 by GeanaHand Appliqué workshop on August 16, welcomed Britex to her studio in Oakland. We have been searching and researching local designers and makers to teach at Britex. Many weeks ago, we set out to find visual artists working with fibers and textiles who would be interested in sharing their 'outside the box' approach to making. Lisa was an obvious perfect match. She is a mixed media artist with lots of teaching experience. She exhibits her work both nationally and internationally and is the author of Knot Thread Stitch – exploring creativity through embroidery and mixed media [Quarry].

We had the pleasure of working with this, at first energetic, group of gals from the Museum of African Diaspora last month. They were part of MoAD's summer program, Behind the Lens: Girls of Color and the Media.
August 5, 2013 by GeanaA visit to an organic cotton farm in Capay Valley left us completely enamored with Sally Fox, local grower of naturally colored organic cotton Foxfibre. She's been at it for decades and clearly loves it! After spending some time on her farm last week, I learned for myself that growing organic cotton is a lot of hard work and takes the hands and support of many.

The world of linings and interlinings can sometimes be mysterious, and because of that, can often be an afterthought. That's why, when our POP-UP Britex sponsor Apparel Arts ran an article explaining the differences between these unique layers, we asked if we could share it on the Britex Blog. Read on and let us know if you found it helpful!

On Thursday, May 16 she'll teach POP-UP Britex: Color Blocking Workshop at Photobooth in the Mission. Here is a little color blocking preview...

April 9, 2013 by GeanaRemember Natasha from Natty Jane Sews? She was the first blogger to contribute to a Britex project about a year ago with the cutest summer frock ever! Well, this gal is never without inspiration. Take a peek at what she's created with one of our soon-to-be-on-sale fabrics. Here she is with some awesome sewing tips, too...
March 13, 2013 by GeanaIt's not everyday that Britex has teachers, and even more rare, that a Britex teacher gets a pro bono Tinype portrait taken at Photobooth in the Mission. This rare moment is due to the fact that Photobooth will be hosting POP-UP Britex taught by Jamie Lau on May 16. It was an awesome experience. We arrived, were made comfortable and had great conversation about art, photography and our current projects. Within about 15 minutes the plates were set and our photographer was ready to shoot.
