We have had several requests for old-fashioned bow tie patterns recently…the kind that you need to tie yourself. Once again, BurdaStyle comes to our rescue with this open source bow tie instructions and bow tie PDF for a delightfully chic, yet retro bow tie pattern.  And Britex Fabrics' online store now carries all the bow tie hardware you'll need! And for all you bow tie fashion mavericks, here are directions on how to knot your new attire.

Download the PDFs and enjoy our very San Francisco photo shoot! Much more inspiration awaits at Britex.

I was hoping to use the pattern you linked on this page to make a bow tie, however when the instructions come up there is no pattern included- only the directions on how to sew it. Do you happen to have a printable for the pattern I can use to cut out the fabric? Did I miss something? Thank you for your time!

Thank you for pointing this out! BurdaStyle must have changed their instructions and PDF pattern set-up. I added the PDF ;)

Does Britex sell the bow tie clasps mentioned in the instruction link? I am midway through the project with some great fabric I bought today at Britex and hope to finish so my man can look amazing on NYE.

Where are the instructions for the technique it talks about for the easy way to make the points? It gives one step, but that's it.

On the instructions I don't see what to do with pattern piece B. Am I overlooking that part on the instructions?

Hi there! I'm excited to make the project and so thrilled that you've provided a free pattern & instructions, but when I open the instructions part of each page is covered by what looks like a portion of a large black letter?? Very strange!

I need a pattern to make a bowtie for my hubby. I have made them before, but can't remember how to do it.
Would appreciate any help you can give me that will allow me to print out on my computer.
    Thank you

Marie, have you given the links above a try? One link is for the PDF pattern, which you can download and print. The other is for very helpful instructions. Best of all, it's free. Hope that helps.
