Keep Toasty in a Cozy Missoni Knit Dress!

missoni dressEmma from the British sewing blog, SewWhatAreYouWaitingFor visited Britex Fabrics, picking up a length of this vibrant Missoni knit fabric.  She wrote about her process of making a muslin, and then sewing her dress.  She says, “I’ve made a rather nice sweater dress good for the British weather. It got a bit hair raising at the beginning as after carefully cutting out the pieces, a pin got stuck in my overlocker and essentially ‘chewed’ off the shoulder! The cuffs and hem were overlocked and then hand stitched in place to form neat edges, the neckline is banded with royal blue woolen binding.” Emma fretted that this made her look like a frumpy librarian, however we think her frock makes her look like a cozy and brainy Emma Peel! Britex Fabrics has a selection of Missoni knits available on our 1st floor. If you cannot make it into the store, then I recommend that you buy our Customized Fabric Swatch Shopper Service.

Chanel Style Jacket in Autumnal Shades

Paule from Alsacea emailed us photos of her latest couture creation, a semi-fitted, collarless Chanel style jacket made from Missoni knit fabric bought from the first floor of Britex Fabrics.  We love the hand-stitched detailing, and the way she accentuated the warm autumnal colors of the knit fabric with wine colored trim and toasty brown buttons.  Julie said, “One of my coup-de-coeur was this knit from Missoni. Thick and overdecorated, it was still fairly light in weight. I decided to use Vogue 8804 pattern, a tweed knit vest Chanel style from Claire Shaeffer. A lot of hand sewing went into this project.” Novelty wools are available in-store and online, and Vogue patterns are available on Britex Fabrics’ 3rd floor.

Free Vintage Shrug Pattern – Make it in Missoni!

Isis, Canadian blogger and seamstress extraordinaire, found a tattered vintage kimono-sleeved shrug in the dress-up box at her Grandma’s house, and set about duplicating it; here is the pattern (in three sizes) and instructions for making this snazzy little number. It requires only one yard of a sweater knit fabric….we think a luxurious bit of this Missoni fabric in Urban Smoke would the perfect splurge for this wrap.
