127 dandies strutted away with clip-on bow ties at last Thursday’s CRAFT BAR. To our pleasure, there were a plethora of first-time craftsters. This infamous collaboration between Britex Fabrics, The Museum and Craft and Folk Art, Bretts and Avery from Whippersnapped, and Etsy was a hotbed of mad stitchery, and there have been requests for a repeat performance. Can we say Guinness World Records for community bow tie making?

Join us on Thursday, January 6th from 6-9pm for an evening of crafting and socializing with three local artists. This month at Craft Bar you can learn to spiff up your wardrobe with a jewelry-themed evening, featuring a range of projects. Make a gorgeous felt bib necklace with local jewelry artist Katherine Coleman from KJC Designs or create your own coil wrapped wire ring with Kelly Ball from Realia. Also, local artist Nicole Royer will be teaching a workshop on how to upcycle old jeans into beautiful necklaces. Have enough gems in your jewelry box? Stop by for the perennial favorite, stitch and bitch area, with drop-in instruction in knitting and crocheting. Enjoy mouth watering cupcakes, and tasty spreads and jams from Stephanie Bushnell of Sweets La Petite. Yeah…..Craft Bar is one year old! While they aren’t baking cupcakes with sprinkles, they’re celebrating with lots of projects from Etsy Labs. Student night returns, and everyone can enjoy prizes, music, and refreshments from Lavash Restaurant. Resident Crafters instruct the making of cozy sock skeletons, traditional Mexican pictograph stamps, and pumpkin plushies from recycled sweaters. Visiting artists Meighan O’Toole, author of the blog My Love for You is a Stampede of Horses, will be making Gods-Eyes and Katy Kristin will show you how to sew cuddly plushies. For those who prefer a less-structured crafting experience, perfect your knitting and crocheting skills in our free-form Stitch ‘n Bitch area. $5 admission to the gallery includes materials and instruction for all crafts, and students are free. Guest artists Julie Schneider, Kelly Ball, Jen Hewett, and Maren Salomon will provide a variety of easy-to-learn bookmaking projects using found and recycled materials. Learn how to make an embroidered greeting card with Lauren Davis, from Crooked Sister. The LoinSF will be on hand with a simple silk-screening project that will suit all skill levels – bring a favorite paper-based item to screen on or screen on materials provided. Free-form knitting and crocheting in the Stitch ‘n Bitch area! Refreshments provided by Trumer Pils and Amber India. Purchase the best grilled cheese in town at the famous Toasty Melts food cart. Craft Bar with Etsy Labs at MOCFA SF returns! 2010 launches with an eco-savvy theme for the conscientious consumer. On Thursday, March 4th between 4pm to 8pm craftastic classes and schmoozing begins! One of our crafty Britex employees will teach folks how to crochet with recycled plastic bags, and there will also be guided knitting lessons.
