Rickshaw is a San Francisco-based bag company. Inspired by the creative energy of our city, urban cycling and an intense desire to make great products, we started Rickshaw to satisfy our personal passion for bags…..In addition to our passion for bags, we share a strong set of humanistic, environmental and social values that guide the way we conduct every aspect of our business.” As for custom bags, they basically need about two yards of fabric for any size Zero bag, or a 15×19 piece of fabric for a commuter bag. Below is a custom bag made of Britex Fabrics fabric, and some standard bags…also made of Britex Fabrics fabric. We love it when a local company makes such beautiful things!
“The bicycle is the most civilized conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart.” –Iris Murdoch

It will be Halloween in a couple of days! Jack and Olivia came into Britex Fabrics with Lindsey, their nanny. Jack is dressed like a soccer ball, and had a hard time restraining himself from rolling down our isles. His sister, Olivia likes to help Lindsey with her knitting projects, and graciously agreed to wear the kitty-cat crown that our cashier, Judy had on hand.

Monique Saviano made this ½ scale reproduction of a Madeleine Vionnet gown for the 16th Annual Educational Conference of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals. This delicate confection is made with silk chiffon from Britex Fabrics. The fringe is made of rayon chainette. One may read more about Madeleine Vionnet , an innovative designer who worked intensively with the bias cut, in Betty Kirke’s book “Madeleine Vionnet”, or in one of many articles about her such as “A Dressmaker Extraordinaire: Discovering the Secrets of Madeleine Vionnet’s Creativity”, which was published in Threads magazine in 1989.

We just got this shout-out! We think Jaleen did a fabulous job on her shrug and hat, and that they make a super cute couple (and we adore how their photographer, Kyle Monk captured all this!): “THANK YOU BRITEX for helping me find a fabric that matched my dress so perfectly and trim that finished it so nicely. I recently got married in an awesome but tricky-colored version of taupe and I made the shrug and the hat all by myself, despite not having the slightest idea what I was doing. It worked out! Thanks so much for your help and patience!! Best – Jaleen”

Thanks to Tina from New York for sending us this fabulous photo of her granddaughter Alora wearing a “Dorothy” pinafore in her school’s production of The Wizard of Oz. Tina made this with Britex’s 100% Italian cotton gingham. She adjusted the neckline and bodice of Simplicity #4136, and then backed the fabric with lightweight cotton to provide the additional body required in stage garments. Tina did a great sewing job!

Liza created this wondrous aqua fur coat for Burning Man. She used Butterick 4317 (a men’s Colonial costume.)
She wrote that “Every inch of that coat, pattern, thread, rhinestones and fabric, is ala Britex!!!” We adore the sparkling detailing on the shawl collar!
