As many know, Britex has been a long standing San Francisco icon, along with many other wonderful places. One of which is our famous San Francisco Symphony. Last month, the two met in a spectacular event celebrating music director Michael Tilson Thomas’ 70th birthday.

We love this silk tunic dress that Sandra Betzina made; sewn with silk panels from Britex Fabrics, and underlined with a lightweight cotton/silk blend fabric. This silk print is unique, and Sandra was astonished by the fact that the cutting lines for the dress are actually printed onto the fabric! Imported from Italy. Each panel is 2 yards and 23” long by 54” wide. $245.00 per panel.
This fabric is available on Britex Fabrics’ 1st floor, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 415-392-2910. (Photo by Michael Mustacchi)
Benilde emailed Britex when she ran out of wine bottle quilting cotton in the middle of sewing a quilt for her husband, who is an oenophilist. Fortunately, we’d just gotten a shipment and were able to send her some post haste! Benilde wrote, “I wanted to make this for him since I found this material on our trip to San Francisco and wanted to make a memory for us. It was an easy quilt to make and I’m so glad I was able to finish it thanks to you. Thank you again for sending me the material I need!” The wine connoisseur fabric collection is available on Britex Fabrics’ 2nd floor, via email at email@example.com, or by phone at 415-392-2910.
It is another case of Britex Fabrics twinsies! Dina, Britex Fabrics’ manager, and Barbara from the first floor must have called one another before work to coordinate their clothing du jour. Barbara is wearing one of her own signature handsewn silk jackets and Dina is wearing a black and blue cocktail frock. We think their color scheme is reminiscent of peacock tails!
A long time customer at Britex Fabrics, Robin emailed us with photos and a scrupulously detailed description of a scrumptious garment that she made inspired by and for Stevie Nicks! Robin says it best:
“Less than a month before the deadline I saw in Rolling Stone that Stevie Nicks was holding a contest to design a shawl for her to wear in promotions for her upcoming tour. It was like a zing through the heart by cupid’s sartorial bow! I love Stevie Nicks, her songs, her aesthetic, and her longevity as a Troubadourian singer-songwriter. If you like it, vote here!
We are enchanted with everything about this photo that was sent to us by Britex online shopper, Anne…the sweet smiles, the love, everyone’s elegant style, the summery roses, Anne’s incredible blooming chapeau, and the sophisticated silk frock. Laura Dyson in Chicago used Vintage Women’s Day Advance pattern 8440 (circa 1957) and a silk chiffon border print from Britex Fabrics when concocting this wondrous creation for Anne’s family wedding occasion. Pictured is Anne, her husband Mike, and their daughter, Emily. Anne also says, “A friend (and dress admirer) here has been to Britex in SF, when I mentioned Britex as the source of that fabulous find she raved about “4 floors of things you need and really knowledgeable people who work there”. I only knew that part :)”
Adam, a local tailor, made his client a suave and chic tailored jumpsuit of brilliant red viscose from Britex Fabrics. Britex Fabrics’ associate, Douglas, assisted Adam. We love the modest plunging neckline and sparklingly bright color. Adam says, “I am an independent designer working in Portland for the last twelve years. I have a collection of men’s and women’s pieces, as well as custom design that I create to order for a clientele. I design, pattern draft, fit, cut, and construct every garment myself in my studio. I am inspired by fabric, color, texture, and finding the perfect fit. Because my main focus is on fit and construction, my designs have often been called “classic”, although I personally strive to strike a timeless balance between fabric, line, and function.” This lovely 100% viscose is available is imported from Italy and on Britex Fabrics’ 2nd floor, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 415-392-2910.
David Reposar, local fashion icon, hair stylist to the stars, artist, and faithful Britex Fabrics’ customer was recently featured in all his glory in the rag, SF Style wearing a tunic made of super Britex textiles! Shades of Hedwig, David says, “I tend to break the barriers across the gender divide and wear what I feel best suits my taste as an artist and as the Global Glam Gypsy.” Remember, if you cannot make it into the store, just use our Customized Swatch Service and we’ll mail you swatches for your new project!
We adore this chic eyelet lace shirtwaist dress designed by Marion after she fell in love with a piece of striped black and white cotton eyelet fabric from Britex…the tiny collar, the sleeve and hemline banding, and the flattering clever pleating make this dress a casual couture wonder! And lucky us, we have a similar eyelet fabric available online.
Somehow I doubt that Chuleenan of C Sews was the only one sewing into the AM hours of the night in order to meet the Sewing Indie Month deadline last week. We are glad she stuck with it because she made it to the short list with a gorgeous cotton print from Britex. She stopped by the store today, and we could not help but snap a few pictures.
