Sleek Red Viscose Jumpsuit – Adam

jumpsuit copyAdam, a local tailor, made his client a suave and chic tailored jumpsuit of brilliant red viscose from Britex Fabrics. Britex Fabrics’ associate, Douglas, assisted Adam. We love the modest plunging neckline and sparklingly bright color. Adam says, “I am an independent designer working in Portland for the last twelve years.  I have a collection of men’s and women’s pieces, as well as custom design that I create to order for a clientele.  I design, pattern draft, fit, cut, and construct every garment myself in my studio.  I am inspired by fabric, color, texture, and finding the perfect fit.  Because my main focus is on fit and construction, my designs have often been called “classic”, although I personally strive to strike a timeless balance between fabric, line, and function.”  This lovely 100% viscose is available is imported from Italy and on Britex Fabrics’ 2nd floor, via email at service@britexfabrics.com, or by phone at 415-392-2910.

We adore this chic eyelet lace shirtwaist dress designed by Marion after she fell in love with a piece of striped black and white cotton eyelet fabric from Britex…the tiny collar, the sleeve and hemline banding, and the flattering clever pleating make this dress a casual couture wonder! And lucky us, we have a similar eyelet fabric available online.

Sewing Indie Month: Voting Time

Somehow I doubt that Chuleenan of C Sews was the only one sewing into the AM hours of the night in order to meet the Sewing Indie Month deadline last week. We are glad she stuck with it because she made it to the short list with a gorgeous cotton print from Britex. She stopped by the store today, and we could not help but snap a few pictures.

We’re always excited when we hear from Britex customer and Persian couture designer, Nima of Nima Shiraz Couture. Here is a glamorous, sophisticated cocktail dress he designed of double-sided silk duchess satin and various lace trims that were acquired at Britex. One side is princess blue and the other side is lavender. The lovely embellishments are a combination of multiple Venise lace trims and beaded trim from Britex Fabrics’ 3rd floor. Purple Velvet Belgian Chef’s Jacket – Duane

P1020196

Duane from the sewing blog Mainely Dad is one of our favorites, and we are one of his. He recently made a purple velvet jacket with velvet from Britex Fabric. He is a fan of hand sewing and does beautiful tailoring work; we love his detailed photos of lining the sleeve in this garment. He says, “I’m giving it it’s first outing at my nephew’s engagement party this weekend. I’m sure no one will be wearing anything like it. :) I must say this was a very challenging project, working with two pretty finicky fabrics.”, but we suspect that he is this handsomely debonair all the time.

Keep Toasty in a Cozy Missoni Knit Dress!

missoni dressEmma from the British sewing blog, SewWhatAreYouWaitingFor visited Britex Fabrics, picking up a length of this vibrant Missoni knit fabric.  She wrote about her process of making a muslin, and then sewing her dress.  She says, “I’ve made a rather nice sweater dress good for the British weather. It got a bit hair raising at the beginning as after carefully cutting out the pieces, a pin got stuck in my overlocker and essentially ‘chewed’ off the shoulder! The cuffs and hem were overlocked and then hand stitched in place to form neat edges, the neckline is banded with royal blue woolen binding.” Emma fretted that this made her look like a frumpy librarian, however we think her frock makes her look like a cozy and brainy Emma Peel! Britex Fabrics has a selection of Missoni knits available on our 1st floor. If you cannot make it into the store, then I recommend that you buy our Customized Fabric Swatch Shopper Service.
