Sheri Jurnecka, a practicing San Francisco attorney, costumer, and corsetiere, has enjoyed creating and wearing fantasy and historical costumes since she was a teenager. Her interest in costuming has evolved over time to include embellished and imaginative corsetry as the basis for opulent evening and bridal wear.
Satin Shadow custom designs historical costumes for both men and women. From English Regency evening wear for men, including fall front breeches, to enchanting and highly embellished Victorian Gowns that are perfect for a romantic period wedding, to alluring Jazz Era dresses, exceptional for dancing away the night. Our goal is to make your fantasy costume a reality.

SFMade Week is Monday, May 7th to Sunday, May 13th. Saturday, May 12th is Shop SFMade Day! SFMade presents a week-long celebration of San Francisco’s vibrant manufacturing sector and the companies and people that bring locally produced products to fruition. SFMade Week features seven days of educational events, factory tours, and retail adventures designed to heighten awareness of local manufacturing and its critical role in our local economy. Britex Fabrics is please to host Nicole Blum & Debra Immergut as they teach a scarf making workshop on Friday, May 4 from 2 -4 PM at Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. The sewing world is about to go improv! Join authors Nicole Blum and Debra Immergut and discover how to have more fun with your sewing machine in this free demo/workshop. Learn simple techniques for embellishing inexpensive knit jersey and adding a ton of personal style to your sewn projects. Get hands-on experience and leave with a beautiful, comfy jersey scarf. Beginners are welcome! Nicole and Debra are the authors of the just-published book Improv Sewing: A Freeform Approach to Creative Techniques: 101 Fast, Fun, and Fearless Projects: Dresses, Tunics, Scarves, Skirts, Accessories, Pillows, Curtains and More. Nicole is an artist, crafter, blogger, and sewing entrepreneur who sells her sewn jersey creations through her blog, One Golden Apple, and at craft fairs. Debra is a writer and content packager, and senior editor at FamilyFun magazine. She blogs with Nicole Blum at Improv Diary. The workshop, including materials and instructions by authors are free of charge (There are limited spaces.)
Thank you to everyone who joined us on March 15 for our Bridal & Evening Wear open house, the first event in our Designer Spotlight Series where we invite customers to meet and mingle with a select group of seamstresses, tailors and designers. It was an exciting night of eye candy and information at Britex Fabrics with a plethora of talented designers, along with samples of their beauteous bespoke work…..all surrounded by the amazing silks and wools on Britex Fabric’s first floor. These events are the ideal situation to choose a designer for your custom garment needs. We would love to hear your feedback! A little bird tweeted in our ear that the Quilters Anonymous 31st Annual Show, “Alive with Color!” will take place in Monroe, Washington on March 16, 17 & 18, 2012 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. There will be 500+ Quilts Presented by the Northwest’s Largest Quilting Guild, with the featured artist, Dorothy (Sally) LeBoeuf. Depicted is their 2012 raffle quilt, “Flowers in my Garden”, made by Linda Tellesbo all members of the Judy Niemeyer Satellite Group.

Over 1,000 folks made crafts at the Randall Museum during their Holiday Craft Day on December 3rd. Britex Fabrics was pleased to help out with a donation of 1,200 buttons, which were used by the children as train wheels on the wooden trains that they crafted in the museum’s woodshop. The Randall Museum is owned and operated by the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department, and features a live animal exhibit, a woodshop, art and ceramics studios, a lapidary workshop, a 188-seat theater, a greenhouse, and gardens.
