The online Wool Tweed & Plaid category fabric sale ends Thursday, February 27th. Enjoy 20% savings on the entire online Wool Tweeds & Plaids! Plaid is a beautifully classic pattern, and with its subtle variations of line quality and color it can convey an ever-changing mood. From the royal Glen plaid, to graphic buffalo checks, to playful puppy-tooth, our plaid wools will liven up your wardrobe. Tweeds have a language of their own. With their nubby, homespun texture, tweed fabrics are ideal for casual jackets, skirts and trousers. The language that is spoken is contained in how you wear it; a rumpled tweed jacket with suede elbow patches screams fluency in obscure film criticism, yet a pair of light-weight pleated front worsted tweed trousers murmurs relaxed glamour. This sale is good for our online Wool Tweeds & Plaids Category only – SF in-store Wool Tweed & Plaid Fabrics are not included in this sale.
P.S. No, you don’t have to make striking matching plaid outfits for the whole gang, even though we’re kind of in love !

This after-hours excursion, made up of part Britex store tour, part textile 101, starts on the Main Floor of Britex Fabrics. We’ll share with you a bit of unknown history and talk about how fabrics from all over the world end up in our San Francisco store. We’ll show you where to find what you’re looking for in this floor-to-ceiling finely curated and solidly-packed store. From wool coatings and imported designer silks on the Main Floor to outdoor adventure wear and laminated linen on the Fourth Floor, you’ll know the ins and outs of this 62 year old establishment after this two-hour tour. We’ll also talk about the basic textile categories and how they are created using different fibers, yarn construction, weaves and knit styles. Be sure to bring a notebook–our after-hours excursion is as densely packed as our four-story building. The fee for this social evening is $20. Light drinks and snacks are included.
After sixty plus years in San Francisco, Britex has seen unbelievable changes from the close of City of Paris and I.Magnin to the rise of tech in our very neighborhood. And now, even our usual style of keeping production local is receiving a different sort of attention. Our fabrics still come from all over the world, but our tote bags are made right here in San Francisco. We’re proud to announce that this year we are officially SFMade members.
SFMade’s mission is to build and support a vibrant manufacturing sector in San Francisco, that sustains companies producing locally-made products, encourages entrepreneurship and innovation, and creates employment opportunities for a diverse local workforce. Visit SFMade before you shop and you’ll be surprised to find out how many local companies are contributing to our local economy from casual fashion to your favorite food truck.
If you want to celebrate with us with great design, purchase your limited edition tote bag soon before they’re all gone.

Lauren of American Duchess: Historical Costuming made this cunning frock from Decades of Style pattern #3007 – 1930s Button Dress. Lauren commented, “I gathered the butterfly sleeves into puffed sleeves, and set the waist ties at an angle instead of straight. I hemmed the skirt at 3 inches…. Overall, I recommend this pattern. It’s easy to sew, looks nice when complete.” Get your perky on, and sew this dress up for spring in snappy red rayon plaid and sprinkle it with yolk yellow quadrilateral authentic vintage buttons!
