Vintage Silk Chantilly Lace from France

Here is some difficult to find silk vintage Chantilly lace. This is an exquisitely delicate and unusual 12″ wide Chantilly lace. Simple flowers and leaves are strewn gracefully across a loose netting background, with one gently scalloped edge. Both edges are adorned with wispy eyelash trim. Once hand-washed in cold water, this lace softens up delectably. This would perfect on the bodice of a romantic vintage-inspired wedding gown!

Tipsy White Chapeau

Sigh! We knew that chapeaux are all the rage, but this causes our heart to beat even faster with delight! Here is the marvelously talented artist Yoko Ono at the Costume Institute Gala 2011, to celebrate the opening of the exhibition ‘Savage Beauty’ in honor of recently deceased innovator and designer Alexander McQueen. She is wearing a fantastique tipsy Stephen Jones hat with a whoosh of swooping white millinery netting over one bright and bespectacled eye.

Russian Veiling is Online at Britex!

We’re ecstatic to announce that Britex Fabrics now offers both flocked and classic Russian netting in our online store. This is perfect for making romantic bridal birdcage veils, accessorizing fascinators, or adding a charming vintage touch to historical costumes. Of course, a chapeau adorned with black flocked veiling makes everyone appear like we should be riding the Orient Express to Turkey, or rendezvousing beneath the Eiffel Tower!

Double Helix Chantilly Lace

We call this lace, “When Scientists Marry!” If Gertrude Belle Elion (renowned research scientist in chemistry) had ever decided to tie the knot, her gown would have been trimmed with this enchanting Chantilly lace. This is a 2 1/2″ wide ivory Chantilly lace in an oh-so-scientific pattern of double helixes, on a loose netting background and framed by a wee picot edge.

Snappy Orange & Grey Silk Fabric

As Ethel Merman said “You can’t get a man with a gun”, but mixed metaphors aside, I know that you can’t keep a good flâneur down. This month has been one of frantic decision-making, peevish hair-pulling, two-fisted java swigging, and hunks of tea cake to wash it all down. It is now time to relax; I’ve loosened my orange and grey silk cravat, my wool-stockinged feet are propped up cozily on my tooled leather ottoman, and my Russian coal-fueled brass samovar is blowing soft billows of pale smoke into my living room. I take a bite of spicy Pain d’Epices and a polite sip of sweet steaming Moroccan tea. I’m back.
“i En primer lugar se me afriad se mantuvo petrificada
pensar en cómo voy a vivir sin ti a mi lado?
Pero, entonces me pasan tantas noches pensando cómo
me hiciste mal, pero me hizo fuerte y he aprendido a llevarse bien
y ahora desde el espacio exterior
No des la vuelta,
hacer que su satisfacción no más,
no se tú el que intentó
a herirme con el adiós
Yo viviré”

Glorious Butterfly Tote – Constance

Constance lives in the beauteous Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, and made a charming tote from fabric purchased from Britex Fabrics. We love the stunning over-sized butterfly printed linen, and the way she picked up the papillon wing color in the muted green of the straps and trim. This mid-weight home decorating linen is found on Britex Fabrics 2nd floor.

New Liberty of London is at Britex Fabrics!

Britex Fabric’s second floor is blooming with a new shipment of soft Liberty of London cotton lawn! Today my favorite is this one with grey and brown birch trees adorned with fantastical fleurs and paisley. As Nanki-Poo would say……
“The flowers that bloom in the spring, Tra la,
Breathe promise of merry sunshine —
As we merrily dance and we sing, Tra la,
We welcome the hope that they bring, Tra la,
Of a summer of roses and wine, Of a summer of roses and wine.
And that’s what we mean when we say that a thing
Is welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring. Tra la la la la, Tra la la la la,
The flowers that bloom in the spring.”

(From The Mikado and by the immortal Gilbert and Sullivan)
